Speech therapy is the treatment measure of communication-related issues and speech disorders. It’s often operated by speech-language pathologists (SLPs), also known as speech therapists. Speech therapy procedures are generally used to improve speech and communication. These include language intervention activities, articulation therapy, and other types of language disorders.

So speech therapy in Delhi is perhaps required for speech disorders that usually begin in childhood. However, speech impairments in adults are generally due to illness or injury such as brain injury or stroke.

Why does an adult need speech therapy?

Well, speech therapy is usually required to treatment several language or speech

disorders which can only be cured by the speechtherapist in Delhi. These include:

Articulation disorders: It’s the inability to form specific word sounds. So a

child/adult with such a speech disorder may distort, swap, add or drop word

sounds. For instance, instead of saying “bis,” they say “bith.”

Fluency disorders: This type of disorder affects the speed, rhythm, and flow of

speech. Cluttering and stuttering are common types of fluency disorders. A

person with cluttering speaks relatively fast results in merging words

altogether. While in the case of stuttering, the person may repeat all or some

part of the word even their speech is blocked or interrupted with troubling

sounds.

Resonance disorders: It occurs when obstruction or blockage of normal airflow

in the oral or nasal cavities affects the vibration, which causes voice quality. It

also happens when the velopharyngeal valve doesn’t close well. However, this

disorder is mainly due to swollen tonsils, cleft palate, and neurological

disorders.

Receptive disorders: A person with such disorder has trouble processing and

understanding what others say. Other such speech disorders include autism.

However, it can be cured by following the speech therapist in Delhi’s

assessment.

Expressive disorders: In this person face difficulty in expressing or conveying

speech. Even they face trouble using incorrect verb tenses or proper sentences.

When to speak to a therapist?

Suppose your baby has been facing specific difficulty in forming words. In that case, it’s better to speak to the speech therapist in Delhi as early as possible as some children show signs in their early stages of development. So if you notice them, it’s better to consult a pediatrician.

12 months of age

If the child doesn’t respond to any words you say to them, you need to consult a

specialist. At this age, your child will begin forming some gestures like pointing, nodding, waving, and babbling. These are the primary signs which explain that your child understands your language.

24 months of age

At this age group, the child can quickly start forming words and even sentences. So if you find your child has difficulty forming words like saying “this” instead of “this,” you shouldn’t ignore it. Pay close attention to your children while they speak, and if it often happens with most of their words, then pay a visit to the specialist.

Three years and beyond

At this point, your child will be able to frame and speak sentences which is quite

understandable. But if you can’t understand what they are saying, then it’s preferable to visit the speech therapist.
